At 100K miles, I felt it was time to change the filter. Thought I would show
you what I did. I hope this helps... -Shawn
Here
is a picture of the car. Haven't taken too many of this car, so I thought
I would throw it in. |
Shot
of the rims. |
Here
what the BMW factory fuel filter looks like. |
The
fuel filter is located under the drivers side seat. It is under a skid
plate. The plate is held in by (2) 5/16 screws and (2) 5/16 nuts. You will
need a deep socket. The 3/8 drive just barely works with a regular socket. |
Here
is a shot of the filter with the shield removed. |
This
is the front of the filter. |
The
filter's hose clamps come off easy with a screw driver. Putting them back
on is another story. You might want to get yourself some regular hose
clamps and just replace them. |
The
fuel filter clamp is secured by a 10mm nut. I had to use a box end because
the return line was in the way. I also pulled the return hose to allow it
to move. |
Here
is a shot with the filter removed. After all the hoses were unclamped, I
slid it out the back. Be prepared, fuel will slosh out of it. If you are
lucky like I was it will end up in your hair! |
Putting
the filter in is the opposite of pulling it out. I dated and put the
mileage on the filter for future reference. |
Update: After the fuel filter change I noticed a very slight
improvement in throttle response. The car seems to rev a little easier.
Overall not much of a difference. Still a good idea to change it since it
is at 100K miles. -sg |
